The Bald Eagle Gets Official Status
The bald eagle (白头海雕) has been a symbol of the United States for centuries. It (print) on their money and passports. It can be seen on their (flag) and government buildings. However, it wasn't officially (Ameria) national bird—until recently.
On December 24th , President Joe Biden signed about 50 bills (法案) into law. One of was to give the bird its official status.
The bald eagle's role as national symbol in U.S. goes back about 250 years. In 1782, it became part of the "Great Seal" of the country in the same year, the bird was placed on the U.S. national symbol. Since then, its picture (appear) in a lot of places.
The bald eagle was chosen because its long life, great strength and look. Americans believe it (fit) their national image. Besides, the bird is from North America.
The bald eagle is protected in the U.S. It is illegal (违法的) (hunt) or sell them. They once almost died out, but their number has greatly increased since 2009.
