The other evening we had a knock at the door. It was a new 1who introduced himself and his boys to us. He also 2 us to a block party as a way to know the people in the neighborhood as well as celebrate his family's coming to live here.
We've lived here almost six years and 3 has ever come to introduce themselves. I suppose we should have introduced ourselves to people moving in,but we haven't. In my opinion, it took the initiative (首创) of a young man and his sons to show me how I could 4 better attention to my own community. I have many local friends but I have to say that I haven't usually been the one to develop the 5 in my own neighborhood.
This experience 6 me of one of my favorite sayings : “When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was 7 to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn't change the nation, I began to focus on(集中精力) my town. I couldn't change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my 8. Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and 9 I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an influence on my family and even on my town. The influence could have changed the nation and I could have changed the world.”
For those of us who want to make a(n) 10 in the world, it's important we remember what Bucky Fuller said, “Think globally(全球的), but act locally” For me, I'm going to make it a point to meet more of my neighbors—starting now.
That night, Sue quarreled with her mother, and she ran out of the house. Since she left in a hurry, she didn't take any money with her.
When she passed a noodle shop, she suddenly felt very hungry. She wished for a bowl of noodles, but she had no money. The owner saw her standing outside and asked her if she would like a bowl of noodle. She nodded but then she said that she didn't have any money.
“Okay, I'll treat you.” the owner said. A few minutes later, the owner brought her a steaming bowl of noodles. After eating some bites, Sue cried.
“What is it?” the owner asked.
“Nothing. I am just touched by your kindness! Even a stranger on the street gives me a bowl of noodles, but my mother chased me out of the house after a quarrel. She is so cruel!”
“Girl, why did you think so? Think again. I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you were touched. Your mother had raised you since you were very born, why weren't you grateful and argued with your mom instead?”
Sue was really surprised after hearing that.
On the way home, Sue thought it over about what to say to her mother. She stopped in front of the door and saw her mother worried and tried after looking for her everywhere. When she saw Sue come back home, she was overjoyed and said eagerly(激动的), “Sue, come inside, honey. Are you hungry? I cooked rice and prepared the meal. Come in and eat while it is still hot.” Sue couldn't control herself any longer. She cried and hugged her mother.
In our life, it's easy for us to appreciate the small actions of strangers, but for the relatives, especially our parents, we see their sacrifices(牺牲)as a matter of course. Parental love is the most precious gift we have been given since birth.

On August 15, 2011,the Ministry Publish Security (公安部) started a campaign (活动) to educate drivers about the dangers of driving after drinking.
As a part of the campaign, police officers watched bars, restaurants and KTVs in Beijing, Shanghai, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hubei and Guangdong. It ended up on December 30. But it told the drivers the meaning of the new traffic laws and the dangers of drinking.
In Beijing, some restaurants put up notices and told drivers about their responsibility. “Usually if a group of guests come by car, the driver won't drink. If he does, we will remind him,” said a waitress from Dongfang Restaurant in Beijing. Fewer drivers are drinking alcohol nowadays, since many know about the campaign.
Wang Lankun, a traffic policeman in Beijing said, “Some drivers think a glass of beer is not a problem. But a blood test will show that their blood-alcohol level is more than 20mg for each 100ml of blood, that is enough to affect their driving.”
During the campaign, drivers who have a blood-alcohol level of over 20mg for each 100ml of blood will get a fine of 500 yuan. Also, they will not be allowed to drive for three months.
In fact, there are strict laws to punish drunk driving in many other countries. For example, in the USA, if someone has a blood-alcohol level of over 80mg for each 100ml of blood, he will be sent to prison for one year. But in Britain, he will be fined 5,000 pounds and banned (禁止)from driving for 12 months, also he will be sent to prison for 6 months. In Germany, if a driver has a blood-alcohol level of over 60mg for each 100ml of blood, he won't be allowed to drive until he passes a new driving test.
A hobby can be almost anything that a person likes to do in his spare time. Hobbyists raise pets, watch birds, paint pictures, play the piano and grow flowers. They collect everything from books to butterflies and from boxes to stamps.
People take up hobbies because these activities offer enjoyment, friendship and relaxation. Hobbies help people relax after a long time of hard work, and provide a balance between work and play. Hobbies offer interesting activities for the old. Some hobbies can make a child grow as a person, develop his interest and help him learn new skills. Doctors have found that hobbies are useful in helping patients recover from illness. Hobbies give patients who can't move around something to do, and provide interests that keep them from thinking about themselves. Many hospitals treat patients by having them take up interesting hobbies.
In early times, most people were too busy making a living to have many hobbies. But some persons who had spare time did enjoy hobbies. People today have more time than ever before for hobbies. Machines have now reduced much time that people must spend on their jobs.
Those who have developed hobbies never need to worry about what to do with their newly-found free time hours.
Sir William Osler, a famous Canadian doctor expressed the value of hobbies by saying, “No man is really happy or safe without a hobby.”

Young people are the future masters of the country. Being a youth is one thing, and being a good one is a. Everyone tries to be good, but not everybody has the right idea about it. Age will test youth, and youth will create age. Because we'll have heavy responsibilities(责任) upon our shoulders in future. We must educate o to be good. What are the qualifications(素质) for a good young person?
A good youth should have these qualities. First of all, health, a healthy body is the best riches.W it, nothing can be done well. If you are poor in health, you'll have to take m day after day. Even you can't work, do sports and so on. Secondly, one must be of good quality. Always do something for others. Help those in trouble and care about the people around you. If everyone did the same, what a w world this would be! Thirdly, one must have the ability to work with others. Cooperation(合作)and communication are two important keys to better human relations. Everyone needs friends b no one can live through his life alone or do everything he wants to.Besides the examples above, patriotism(爱国主义)is the one we should never forget. Patriotism m a love of one's country. It is one of the h qualities of humans. Everyone should love his o country.
