A traveler was in a large desert(沙漠), planning to walk across it in one month. Twenty more days passed, the journey had been going on1. "Soon I'll be able to walk out of this desert," he thought happily.
But the desert was never friendly2travelers. In a short time, there came a strong sandstorm. He quickly3his head with the clothes, prostrate (匍匐)on the sand. After about ten minutes, the sandstorm4. He shook the clothes and stood up. At that moment, he found himself in a hopeless situation—the backpack with food and water was swept away by the5.
As we know, it seems6to leave the desert without food and water.7, he had a pear left. He held it in his hands tightly." Not too bad, at least I have a pear. I8I can walk out of the desert."
Days and nights went by quickly, but the desert still looked endless. Besides, hunger, thirst and fear of9were always around him like ghosts(鬼魂).10, each time he was close to losing hope, he forced(强迫) himself to stare at the pear that he had been11. "Not too had, at least I have a pear."
A small pear became the12for his survival(生存). Three days later,13he saw a village not far away, he laughed with excitement. He felt completely relaxed—the "pear" brought him back to14.
To keep hope is the best weapon(武器)for victory, so never tell you "15"because only if you try to search, you can always find a "pear" to pull you out of trouble.
If you have a magic bank account (银行账户), it has 86, 400 yuan in it each morning. But if you don't spend this money during the day, it will go back to zero at the end of the day. What would you do?Spend as much as you can each day, of course.
In fact, we all have a magic bank account like this. It is the time we have each day. Each day is 86,400 seconds long, but every second passes. Every second can't get back again.
Of course, you can never borrow time. You can't borrow time from your future or take a "time loan (贷款)" from someone else. The time you have is just the time you have and that is that. You need to manage your time yourself. You can decide how to spend your time, just as you can decide how to spend your money.
Many of us don't use time the same way as we use money because we feel our time never runs out. If you spend money, you can't get it back the way that a new day brings us more time. But in fact, there is no way to get more time in life. So we should use our time wisely.
On June 5,Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhen—the astronauts of Shenzhou-14 spaceship—got into China's Tianhe space station, starting their journey in space. They returned back to Earth and successfully landed at the Dongfeng landing site on December 4. Do you want to be an astronaut like them? How did they get there?
Health is important.
To be an astronaut, you need to be very healthy. Good eyesight, a strong heart and healthy lungs(肺)are important. You'd better not have other small problems. For example, a decayed tooth(龋齿) could get worse in space and bring trouble to astronauts. You can't have scars(伤疤) , either. They may split(裂开)in space, as Pang Zhihao, a space scientist, told the Beijing Morning Post.
Become stronger with hard training.
In China, you must be a great pilot before you can be an astronaut. You must fly more than 600 hours without accidents. You'll start training when you become a backup(预备的) astronaut. It's very difficult. For example, you need to build your muscles(肌肉) as strong as possible like professional athletes by running, swimming and doing pull-ups.
Learn science.
Knowledge(知识) is important as well. Astronauts take 60 courses to get ready for a mission, including math, English, spacecraft design, physics and many more. So they will know what to do when something dangerous happens during the mission. They can also do scientific experiments (实验) in space.
take 60 courses ②do scientific experiments
③be very healthy ④fly more than 600 days without accidents
More than just a scientist
What would life be like if you were a rocker, a soccer player, a teacher at Stanford University, and a Nobel Prize winner? Carolyn Bertozzi from the US lives such a cool life!
Bertozzi shares this year's Nobel Prize in chemistry with Barry Sharpless (US) and Morten Meldal (Denmark). She became this year's only woman winner in science and the eighth woman to win the chemistry prize in history.
Bertozzi won the prize for studying the sugar coats of cells(细胞). She has found a smart way to connect(连接) cells by connecting their sugar coats. The cells then have a green color so that scientists can see clearly where they are and how they move. The University of California, Berkeley said that her finding could help to develop new treatments for cancer(癌症).
▲ . She was a keyboarder(键盘手) in a rock band. She even thought about majoring in music. She also played soccer, and won an athletic scholarship(体育奖学金) from Harvard.
As a woman scientist, Bertozzi tries to promote gender equality(性别平等). "In the late 1980s, maybe 10% of the students were women," she told news magazine Chemical & Engineering News. "There were maybe one or two women in a lab(实验室), so we tried to support each other by starting a monthly get-together for all the women students in the department."
A lot of people don't want to learn how to swim because they're afraid of drowning(溺水). Here are some simple, safe ways to avoid drowning.
31 Stay within a depth you can deal with. When you're first learning how to swim, don't get into water that's too deep for you to stand in. If something goes wrong, you can simply stand up and breathe.
32Don't swim in bad weather condition. Swimming in a little rain should be fine, but if you see or hear a storm coming, get out of the water at once.
33Don't swim in water that's too cold. Moving your hands and legs can become suddenly difficult if you're in very cold water.
34Don't swim alone. Always go swimming with at least a strong swimmer. An area with a lifeguard is usually the best place to swim.
35Don't swim in moving water. If you must learn to swim in an ocean or river, watch the motion(运动) of the water carefully. Make sure you're with someone who knows the situation well, and be sure to read the steps about getting out of a riptide(激流)or a rushing river.

People use robots everywhere. They are playing 46 important role in our life. Scientists are now studying nanorobots(纳米机器人 ).They are different from the common ones. They are pretty small in 47, so they can even go into our blood vessels( 血管).
Nanorobots will be good helpers of doctors. Every year a lot of people die of dancer(癌症).With nanorobots' help, however, cancer will never be terrible. These robots are able to carry medicine into the human body. They will find out cancer cells (细胞) and kill them without 48 healthy ones. Scientists are surprised that they can find their way out after they finish 49 work inside the human body. Maybe it seems like a science story, but you can believe it will come true some day in the near future.
Will you be 50 in working with a nanorobot when you grow up? Just get ready from now on. Everything is possible.
Can you imagine turning your school into a farm? This is what we did recently.
Under the "double reduction "policy("双减"政策), we are so excited 51we all join different new clubs and after-school activities. The Happy Farming Club is 52 (big) club of all. "At first I thought I could only grow some vegetables here," said Zhang Ming, a club member. "However, I found that I also learned a lot about farming and biology". First, we spent a week 53(study)the crops like rice and corns. Next, we started to grow them. "My group tried growing potatoes," said Zhang. "we first54 (careful) put the potatoes underground. Then we covered them 55soil and watered them. After that, we not only had a good time, 56also had a great sense of achievement(成就感). We hope the potatoes 57(grow)strong in a few days ."
Other groups grew different things. We decided 58(tell) them apart, so we set up boards with the vegetables' names on them. The school looks 59 a small farm now. "we are the first to grow vegetables in our school's history, "said Zhang, "60 a special experience(经历) ! "
