Dave likes swimming in a small river near his house. But then his parents go to work in a big city and Dave has to go with his family. Their new house has a garden, but the garden is very small. Dave is not very happy.
"Is there a river near our house?" he asks his father on the first morning. "No, there isn't. But there is a big park near here. And there is a pool in it. We are going there this afternoon," says his father. Dave is very happy.
Dave and his father go to the park in the afternoon. Dave wants to walk near the pool. But he sees a sign. His father reads it to him, "Warning: This pool is dangerous. 365 people fell into it." Dave looks at the pool carefully, and then he says, "I can't see them."
I was traveling alone through the UK. To reach places that were off the public transportation map, I bought an old car, which cost most of my money. I couldn't afford to stay in the hotel, so I had to camp in my car for the rest of the trip.
One morning I awoke in my old car on a country road in Ireland and saw a single house. The water in my thermos (保温瓶)had gone cold, so I knocked on the door of the house. A woman opened it. I asked her for some hot water. But she wouldn't let me get away with just that! I was invited indoors. She asked me to sit at the table and have breakfast with her family. They filled my thermos before I left.
I was greatly moved. And I decided to pass the kindness on. The other day I met a young man who had been driving around to look for a parking lot. He looked very upset. I was glad that I was able to point one out to him. His thankful smile was the hugest reward (奖赏) for me.
Our English Festival
In our school, the English Festival is very important to the students and teachers. It is usually in December, before the New Year's Day. We always have an English party, and we sing, dance and play different kinds of English games at the party. This year, we have the tenth English Festival. It's wonderful. Students sit together and celebrate(庆祝) the English Festival.
On that day, my friends and I go to many classrooms to watch different games. One of the games is "Drive, stop (停止) and answer". It's my favorite English game. It's interesting to drive the "car". At the same time (同时), you must answer the questions when the "car" stops. Most of us like the game very much.
We have a good time on that day. We like the English Festival very much. We can have fun and we can learn something, too.
